Embodiment is necessary, but not sufficient for recovery. After years of experimentation, practice, and study, this is my conclusion.
You need to know what’s going on with yourself to have abstinence and recovery, and you need to be connected with your body. But it’s not enough.
You probably need to make sure you’re not eating crazy amounts of sugar and shit, or else you’re just going to be overpowered by physiological craving; there are certain things you do need on a biological level. You need to get adequate sleep so that your frontal cortex is online. You probably need some social support. Some sunshine. Physical activity. Kitten kisses or puppy cuddles are not required but would be bonuses.
There are many things involved in the recovery matrix beyond a connection to one’s body.
Certainly, having a solid no-sugar meal plan, and getting great sleep, drinking water, and getting in the sun will go a long way, but if you’re completely disconnected from your body, you’re still probably gonna have some challenges.
If we can pull together alllll the good support– the support of the connection with your BODY (hand of heart, can you feel the feels?), PLUS the support of good sleep and nutrition and stimulating/soulful stuff and nature and more….this is full of promise.
